Barcelona needs to achieve a record income this summer in terms of sales to be able to solve the problem of its salary cap. The aim is to provide wages and sales that could reach 150 million euros in the best case scenario.
The sports administration has been working on different scenarios for weeks, and the first sale is on track with Clement Lenglet.
The left-back convinces Tottenham and a final sale could be formalized for a player who will not be included in Barcelona’s future plans.
Lenglet left last summer for Tottenham on loan without a mandatory purchase option. It was not an easy process because the player’s salary had to be reduced, but eventually a positive agreement was reached for all parties.
The French defender, who was requested by former coach Antonio Conte, performed very well in the English Premier League, and it is clear that the London club, if he decides to sign the purchase process, can make a good deal as long as the player gives approval.
The two clubs are already talking to formalize a deal for around €14m. Barcelona already have a large part of his signing consumed, so it would be for the job of selling him and thus saving an important salary as well.
There is good preparation between the two parties because despite Conte’s departure, Tottenham’s internal reporting on Lenglet is excellent both personally and professionally. And the left-back market is expensive, so finding a defender with his experience is tough.
