Barcelona shifted from trusting that Dembele and Pedri would recover as quickly as possible from their injuries, to holding their fingers together so that no other player would be injured, because in the past five days more than one player had missed.
Barcelona confirmed on Friday, as soon as it underwent various medical examinations by the club’s doctors, what was announced a few days ago by the Netherlands national team: Frenkie de Jong suffers from discomfort in the biceps of his right leg and for this reason he did not join the camp of his country.
He is absent and his return will depend on the evolution of his recovery. Barcelona have not announced when the former Ajax midfielder should be out of action. However, his absence is a serious setback for Xavi, just like Dembele and Pedri, who have been sidelined for several weeks. The three players are indisputably key players in the formation.
But Xavi does not suffer from absences in his midfield and attack only, in his first matches after the resumption of the competition, where he will face Elche in La Liga and then Real Madrid in the second leg of the King’s Cup semi-finals, but he faces important doubts in the defense line.
Araujo, like Frenkie de Jong, was injured in El Clasico and for this reason he was not called up to the Uruguay national team: he has a left leg injury. The feeling of discomfort is not dangerous, but no one wants to take risks. So it is not clear when he will join the team.
On the other hand, Christensen’s injury seems more significant. The Dane was forced to withdraw from the match between Denmark and Finland due to pain in his left calf. Barcelona confirmed his diagnosis, and he will be absent from 3 to 4 weeks, which means that he will not join the El Clasico.
Players such as Marcos Alonso, Sergi Roberto, Eric Garcia and Kessé will be allowed these absences to enter the formation. Ferran Torres or Ansu Fati will do so as well because Rafinha will be out due to suspension.
Barcelona is on the right path in La Liga, 12 points ahead of Real Madrid at the top of the table, but access to the Cup final is not yet guaranteed: in the first leg of the semi-finals they won 1-0. On April 5, they will receive a visit from the Whites at the Camp Nou in the second leg.
