Chelsea terminates Aubameyang’s contract after appearing in Barcelona’s dressing room

English club Chelsea is preparing to terminate the contract of unfavorable striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after his return to Barcelona last weekend.

The Gabonese international was present at the Blaugrana’s dramatic late victory over Real Madrid in El Clásico on Sunday and reportedly visited the dressing room afterwards.

Spanish newspaper Sport writes that during this visit, despite not having contact with President Joan Laporta directly, Aubameyang openly expressed his desire to return to the club he joined for half a season. It is believed that he would be willing to reduce his salary in order to facilitate the move.

Naturally, the trip did not go well in West London. Chelsea are said to have decided to terminate the striker’s contract a year before it expires and allow him to return to the Catalan club in the summer.

Aubameyang left Barcelona in the summer and joined Chelsea at the request of Thomas Tuchel, who was later sacked. Under Potter, the 33-year-old has made just 18 appearances in all competitions.

He has clearly fallen out of favor given his omission from the Blues’ Champions League squad and his absence from the final squad for their last two Premier League matches.

For their part, Barcelona and Xavi would welcome the move, as Aubameyang made a good impression in Catalonia both in terms of his off-field stance and contributions on it, having scored 13 goals in just 23 matches.
